Well the summer has flown by as usual with the blog largely neglected.  Blogger has been unkind to me lately.  Glitchy, vexing, or just downright unresponsive.  Our desktop computer crashed so I am getting used to doing everything on the iPad or laptop.  Heck who am I fooling, I'm still reeling over the fact that the printer can print without being plugged into the computer.  wireless...amazing.

In Ethan news, we discovered he is very very far sighted and has a pretty bad astigmatism. When I took him to the eye doctor I was secretly hoping he would need glasses because I imagined him looking so adorable in them.  I did not imagine the coke bottle ones that he actually got...but I've always had a thing for baby glasses. He does indeed look adorable in them.  And glad he can see now.  A lot of his quirky behaviors now make total sense.  Like the way he used to cock his head back when he watched tv.  And how he would wait for me to give him the thumbs up before crossing the street on his bike, but my thumb would be up for like 30 seconds before he could make out if it was up or down.  Well, one more mystery solved.  As if my life needs more stress, we also started Ethan on a gluten-free diet at the beginning of the summer.  Have been doing some research about how this can help reduce some hyperactive and impulsive behaviors.  Honestly have not seen a huge improvement yet, but planning to give it 6 months or so.  Chris has him on several natural supplements (fish oil, flaxseed oil, etc) as well.  I don't even know all the stuff he gives him.  Chris mixes it up in a little bit of OJ and Ethan gulps it down like a trooper.  Chris continues to battle with his own health and some MS-like symptoms that seem to come and go.  He is eating a grain free diet now (no rice, no wheat, no corn, no potato) which seems to help.  Thinking about what to have for dinner is extremely intimidating these days.  Gluten-free and grain free equals, you guessed it, a whole lot of meat.  But wait!  I don't eat meat!  Yes, tricky tricky.  But I love my men so we make do:)

Nini is finally getting braces here in a few weeks. The moment she has been dreaming about for the  past two years.  I have a feeling the novelty is going to wear off quickly once she realizes they hurt a little.  Her front tooth nearest the cleft is completely rotated 180 degrees so that she can't bite together all the way.  Her other tooth did finally come through the bone graft, but it's pretty misshapen.  Amazing what they can do with teeth now a days though.

Meagan is in her last year of middle school.  Hard to believe that this time next year she will be starting high school!  She looks and acts more grown up everyday.  She is so beautiful inside and out. She has a great little group of friends but we are learning to be experts at regulating the texting and social media.  I can't imagine what interesting things they can talk about 24/7.  Sometimes they take short videos of whatever TV show they are watching and text it to the other person...I guess so it's sort of like watching it together???  Tell me again how did we ever survive without this technology.
NiNi now also has an iPod.  Saved up her own money for it.  Sometimes I am at work and they are both texting me.  I call it "fight texting."  It goes like this:  NiNi types, "Meagan won't let me pour my own cereal! Text her to let me!"  Then Meagan texts:  "Mooooooom!  Help! NiNi is sooooooo out of  control.  Text her to stop it".  And so on.  You get the idea.   All I can say is hallelujah school is back in session and during the weeknights they are mostly too tired to fight.  Mostly.

Here are a few funnies I remembered to jot down:

Ethan really likes one of NiNi's little friends.  The other day we were talking about growing up and he said, "When I grow up I'm gonna call Katerina honey and she's gonna put me a ring"

Right after Ethan got his eyes checked he must have heard us tell a few people that he had poor vision.  So the next day I asked him to clean up his toys and he said all pathetic, " I can't do it
mommy. I can't see very well"

Sometimes it is hilarious to listen to NiNi and Ethan's conversations.  She can't pronounce her "r's" and Ethan can't pronounce, well, a lot of sounds.  Not to mention he has a mild hearing loss in one ear.  There is a place we drive past on the way to grandmas called "Third Phase". The other day NiNi said "There's Thowd Phase"   Ethan yells, "Huh!?  Thor?  God of thunder?"

NiNi:  "mommy it's the last dinner"  (pointing to a picture of da Vinci's last supper)

Ethan:  "Utoh I got some bubbles troubles"

"God died!  And came back to life in 3 hours!"

             "Whoa, whoa, wait your horses!"

Growing up...

Cleaning out my camera bag I came across an old memory card.  The girls were so sweet!!! I think they were 3 and 8 here.
