Ethan lip/nose revision

In case you haven't guessed, we hit our max out of pocket medical expenditure for the year...hit it in June actually.  Kind of fun going to the pharmacy when stuff is free.  Chris asked me if I wanted to get any "work" done, this would be the year to do it.  Not sure what work he thinks I need done, but might just have to think about that one.  So, still on tap for this year...circumcision for Ethan, vasectomy for Chris, cyst removal and custom inserts for his plantar fasciitis.  Oh what a glamorous life we lead.

This surgery for Ethan was easy peasy.  Kind of nice there are very few stitches on the outside of his face.  Everything is on the inside of his nose and lip.  When they did his initial repair in China his cleft was over-closed.  So the nostril was almost completely closed and lots of extra tissue on his lip.  Very grateful to Smile Train, but our plastic surgeon dislikes these "medical safaris" because many of the surgeons have little experience in this type of surgery.  Hey, when you have one shot at a free, life-changing surgery who can afford to be picky?  But I see his point, since he is often the one doing "clean up."  So yesterday they removed tissue from his lip and scar tissue from inside the nose.

Anyway, it is very difficult to make the nostril bigger once it has been over-closed, but we are hopeful this procedure will help.  He will wear the nasal retainers for about 8 weeks.  They are like oxygen tubing stitched into his nose.  Does not seem to bother him right now but probably because everything is still swollen.
